Causes: Food, Food Programs, Soup Kitchens
Mission: Our Mission, a city where everyone has food, community, and support. Every night of the year, we feed and serve the immediate needs of the hungry so they can build better lives. We value dignity, respect and the intrinsic value of every human life. We believe that compassion, tolerance and an appreciation of the diversity of the human experience mandates that we not just serve our clients a good meal but that treat them as people deserving of the deepest respect regardless of their circumstances.
Results: Over 50,000 meals served. Over 6,000 volunteers come to help us prepare the food and serve the food. We've given out thousands of pieces of clothing, hygiene kits, backpacks, and blankets. We've distributed thousands of pounds of food to other outreach organizations, (My Friend's Place, Valley Victory, Alexandria House, etc).
Target demographics: Hungry, homeless, anyone who is hungry and needs us.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 50,000 people have a healthy, delicious, free dinner every night of the year.
Geographic areas served: In the Hollywood, CA community
Programs: Meal Engagement Program - HFC, a broad-based grass-roots organization, serving the homeless and hungry every day since 1987! Monday through Friday, 6:30pm until 8:30pm, meals are given out, as bundles and bags at The Way In Center. Saturday and Sunday nights, from 6:15 and 7:30, a community comes together at the corner of
Romaine St. & N. Orange Dr. (90038). At the Coalition, we serve upwards of 200 to 300 men and women for whom the nightly, free meal might well be the only meal they have all day. During 2019, we served over 50,000 hot, , nutritious, and absolutely free meals.
General Assistance program - HFC provides help navigating shelter and housing, laundry vouchers, mental and physical health aide to many people. Since 1999, the Coalition has worked in close partnership with UCLA's mobile health and vision clinic project to help remedy mental health, substance abuse, gender-based violence, domestic abuse, legal challenges, and more. See Form 990, Schedule i, Part iii for more detail of accomplishments.
