Mission: “To preserve and create assets in the Hilltop community through collaboration and coordination of resources” The Hilltop Alliance is structured as a collaborative organization of community-based organizations from the following eleven south Pittsburgh neighborhoods: Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mount Washington, Mount Oliver City, South Side Slopes, and St. Clair, as well as Mount Oliver Borough. Current member organizations are: Allentown CDC, Beltzhoover Civic Association, Carrick Community Council, Knoxville Community Council, Hilltop Economic Development Corporation, Mt. Oliver City/St. Clair Block Watch, Mount Washington Community Development Corporation, and South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association. On behalf of member organizations, the Hilltop Alliance serves as shared program and project management capacity across all neighborhoods and organizations.
Results: Fresh Fridays on the Hilltop program distributes over 80,000 pounds of produce to residents at one event per month. Green Space Assets Reinvestment: The Hilltop Alliance works on revitalizing longneglected green spaces in our neighborhoods, including ongoing projects such as: Haberman Avenue Corridor (Beltzhoover) McKinley Park (Beltzhoover) Mountain Avenue Corridor Parklets (Mt. Oliver) Hilltop Urban Farm (St. Clair) Knoxville Incline Greenway (Allentown) Friends of South Side Park (South Side Slopes/Arlington) Property Stabilization: Our Property Stabilization Program (PSP) works as a code enforcement intermediary to assist homeowners in connecting them to available resources to make repairs to their homes. By working in coordination with City Departments, local magistrates, third party assistance agencies, local contractors, and neighbors, as well as gathering various layers of data from open data portals, PSP has become more proactive in conducting outreach to residents since its inception in 2013. Through ontheground walk throughs of our neighborhoods and the development of our centralized database, the Hilltopwide program boasts an average 57%.
