Causes: Religion
Mission: The corporation was formed to be a social services and educational organization that will focus on connecting religious communities and leaders with persons residing in nursing homes, more specifically by: - educating houses of religious worship about how to develop nursing home ministries, - educating houses of religious worship about issues affecting those residing in nursing homes and how to remove barriers to inclusion, - providing individuals residing in nursing homes with information about houses of worship and other resources to help ease the burden of their situation, - encouraging persons residing in nursing homes to become involved in faith communities, - encouraging and providing education for families or caregivers of persons residing in nursing homes.
Programs: In 2017, heart2heart recruited 167 volunteers from local churches, corporations and civic organizations who were then trained and placed in 42 long term care centers throughout broward and palm beach counties. Volunteers visited elderly residents anywhere from one to four times a month. Visits consisted of one-on-one visitation and group activities. The number of elderly residents that benefitted from group visitation ranged from eight to twenty per visit. An estimated number of elderly residents who recieved visits from heart2heart volunteers in 2017 is more than 1,000.
