Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Domestic Violence, Family Violence Shelters, Homeless & Housing

Mission: The Hawai’i State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (HSCADV), a private not for profit organization, focuses primarily on the empowerment, safety, and protection of battered women and their children and the accountability of batterers. HSCADV membership is comprised of directors from the majority of domestic violence shelters and service provider programs for victims, perpetrators, and the children of intimate partner violence in the State of Hawaii. A governing board, selected from the membership, directs the agency. The purpose of the Coalition is to coordinate efforts to end violence against women in Hawai’i. It is the belief of HSCADV members that violence against women results from the use of force or threat to achieve and maintain control over others in intimate relationships. We also believe that societal abuse of power and domination in the forms of sexism, racism, heterosexism, classism, anti-Semitism, able-bodyism, ageism, and other oppressions foster battering by perpetuating conditions that condone violence against women and children. Our primary focus is on the empowerment, safety, and protection of battered women and their children and the accountability of batterers. We respect the privacy and personal integrity of the people we serve and acknowledge their unique needs. We are non-judgmental and accept differences in people’s skills, abilities, and circumstances as we nurture self-respect and esteem.
