It is an organization of people committed to providing the highest quality ocular tissue for transplantation and to promoting organ and tissue donation, all in a caring and continuously improving manner.
Programs: The hawaii lions foundation is responsible for carrying out the sight, hearing and other charitable projects for the lion club members of hawaii. The amount of expenditures above represents expenditures for vision screening, hearing screening, used eyeglasses, sight is beautiful poster contest, sight and hearing help for uninsured/underinsured school children, and drug education quest program for schools.
the main program of the hawaii lions foundation is the hawaii lions eye bank and makana foundation. Its purpose is to provide suitable cornea to doctors for corneal transplants. The eye bank also provides sclera for eye surgery. Donors request to donate cornea or they are donated by next of kin of the deceased. Since 1980, the eye bank has provided 5,330 cornea for surgery. For fiscal year ended 6/30/17, the eye bank provided 10 cornea for surgery in hawaii and around the world through its international placement program.
