This was an amazing organization to volunteer for. Habitat for Humanity in general is great but I had the opportunity to volunteer in Waterloo. I came to Waterloo with a school service trip during my spring break and loved it! They provided lunch and lodging for the week and we were able to meet the staff there. They also organized for us to go watch a hockey game. The contractors were very patient with our group of novice home-builders- some of us have never hammered a nail before but by the end of the week, we were power saw masters. The people we met and worked with were just so grateful, it made hammering in light rain and standing all day so much better. The best part had to be seeing the progress on the house after just a week.

Habitat for humanity works in partnership with people in need of adequate shelter by providing safe, simple, affordable housing so that all god's children can live and grow into all that god intended.
Programs: The organization obtains donations of money, materials, and labor to build or rehabilitate homes with the assistance of the future home owners. Eligible families purchase these homes from the organization.
iowa heartland habitat for humanity restore is a discount home improvement store that focuses on keeping quality, usable building materials and home goods out of our landfill. Restore accepts new and used material donations from individuals, retailers and contractors, and then sells those materials back to the general public at deeply discounted prices. Proceeds help build habitat for humanity homes in the communities we serve.
