Mission: Seeking to put god's love into action, habitat for humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope by making decent, affordable housing available to more families and to associate with other organizations, that have a kindred purpose. Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Programs: Greater florence habitat for humanity continued to diversify its programs to include the repair and renovation of existing homes in addition to its traditional new home construction model. Families purchase newly construicted habitat homes, with a no-interest mortgage, after completing their sweat equity hours and homeownership preparedness classes. Families purchased homes that had been acquired by habitat through foreclosure and renovated to like-new condition. As a result of greater florence's depressed residential real estate market, habitat continues to buy and renovate existing foreclosed homes for less than it costs to build a new home. This strategy has helped habitat stretch donor dollars, serve more families and stabilize neighborhoods with high foreclosure rates.
