Mission: To receive and administer funds and to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code of 1986, or subsequent comparable provisions of subsequent legislation, and in particular: 1. To address a critical unmet need in michigan by providing public interest legal representation on environmental issues to community organizations, environmental groups, governments and agencies. 2. To assist international, regional, and state governments on policy development and with legal advice on environmental issues.
Programs: Developing water law in the state of michigan: protecting ground water and surface water in michigan. Amicus briefs on behalf of environmental and conservation groups. Proposed legislation and amendments to mi groundwater and surface water laws. Commenting on state and federal permit applications.
coal plants and promoting clean energy: legal research, preparing and drafting comments, representing environmental groups. Drafting proposed clean energy legislation, commenting on state energy plan. Serving as local counsel for national environmental groups on energy litigation.
supervising environmental law clinic students and working with them on a variety of legal issues such as green infrastructure, the detroit incinerator, stopping aquatic invasive species in the great lakes policy development for wind and solar energy advancement, commenting on various state and federal permits, drafting model ordinances and legislation.
