We have rescued three golden retrievers from the grateful golden. We had Spencer, Sassy, and Marley. All three were born with halos of course they were all different but as sweet as life could possibly imagine. We still have Marley, he is so amazing. The Grateful Golden has been a wonderful program that we have appreciated. They truly care, and are very informative. They do try to give you as much information on the history of the dog. Thank you, grateful golden for all our beautiful fur babies. We have so many wonderful memories.
Sincerely,
Sue and Allan Klingel
Our family has Grateful Goldens Rescue, an incredible and wonderful organization, to thank for rescuing Riley, a loving and goofy boy that was born with a deformed paw. He is such a sweet boy that loves all people and creatures. Please donate to this amazing organization, which is incredibly well run, organized, productive and does very meaningful work, because Riley and others like him need our help and deserve to be saved.
Grateful Goldens of the Lowcountry has been so amazing. We fostered a goldendoodle puppy, Teddy, in 2022 who we fell in love with and later adopted. Since then I have volunteered with GGR regularly and have had nothing but great experiences. GGR truly cares for each and every dog and wants to make sure they have the best possible outcome.
I lost my 16 year old Golden, Emma in February 2023. As most dog people know it was devastating. Swore never again. However we know how that goes as I soon realized that my home was empty without a dog and it had to be a Golden. I reached out to Grateful Goldens and began the process of re-homing another dog. The procedure they require (paperwork, references, home visit) certainly showed their dedication to placing their rescues in the right homes. While the process took some time I was rewarded with a perfect match in April of 2024. In addition the dog received a comprehensive physical exam to include include all vaccinations that needed to be brought up to date.
I can't thank the people who dedicate so much of their time , effort , and love to this organization. My home is alive again with the love of a Golden.
With Gratitude, RMc
We lost our beloved 17 year old dog and there was a hole in our hearts. Foster parents brought our beautiful golden named Ginger to visit us and it was love at first sight. She was the best dog ever and was with us for many years.
Close to 2 years age we adopted a beautiful chocolate dog from GGR (about 3 years old), Rosie. Her hair was shiny and silky and her tail was very golden like, with blonde highlights throughout her coat, we were sure there was a golden in there someplace. We had a DNA test run and she was 60% Chesapeake Bay Retriever and 10% Labrador Retriever and no golden. Not much on getting wet or retrieving. She is pretty much a Velcro dog who loves to snuggle. Thanks GGR she is perfect.

We adopted our first Golden, Gigi, in 2015 after raising, and turning in for training, a guide dog puppy for Southeastern Guide Dogs. After losing Gigi to cancer this past April, we contacted GGRLC again and were thrilled to adopt Jeni this past June. She's a fun-loving 14-month-old red golden with a lot of love for everyone she meets. Kudos to George Radcliff and our local rep, Bob Nadeau for all their interest and follow-up with us. Special thanks to Haley E. for her fostering this wonderful pup.
Before I became a volunteer with GGRLC, a few years after its founding, I was a devoted Siamese cat fanatic. Then I met Kerry, the founder of this absolutely incredible organization and came to my senses. Since then I have adopted and fostered many dogs from the organization and, as a result, my life has become incredibly enriched. Additional enrichment has come from meeting other volunteers who are all selfless, hard- working, dedicated, determined, loving and oh so kind.
GGRLC takes exquisite care to place the "right" animal with a potential adopter/fosterer through mandatory home visits prior to placement as well as application review. Prior to placement, the organization provides medical and emotional care, often very, very needed.
Thank you Grateful Goldens!
I adopted my first Golden, Annabelle, in 2004, the first year of Grateful Goldens. Since that time I have adopted two more, Cheyenne and Sassy. All of them have been wonderful additions to my life and have rewarded me with unconditional love and loyalty. Virginia Pearson and all the volunteers of this outstanding organization have worked tirelessly over the years to find each and every dog the best home possible.
My husband and I have always been advocates for rescues; we fostered 6 over the past 37 years. When our last one passed we decided to begin looking and found GGRLC. They do an awesome job of caring for their rescues and finding the right homes. We adopted River 3 years ago; he was 2 at the time. It was obvious that GGRLC had worked with River. He had a lot of good manners! There was an immediate bond with him the day we got him. As with all rescues we invested a lot of time and patience, especially with a 2 year old getting to know his new parents and surroundings! River is such an awesome fur baby. I highly recommend this rescue. I will be forever grateful to GGRLC.
We have had the great honor of adopting two wonderfully lovely golden retrievers from Grateful Goldens. Our first, Georgia had pretty intense medical issues. Virginia Pearson, our local representative for Grateful Goldens thoroughly educated us on her needs and walked beside us every step of Georgia’s too short journey with us. It was a privilege to love that sweet, brave girl through the ups and owns of her life. She was so happy and free here. Our second, Bella was only 2 1/2 and had already had 2 liters of puppies when Grateful Goldens found her in a puppy mill. Again, Virginia facilitated the entire process and we have had Bella for over a year and just adore her to pieces. When we need to be away Virginia takes care of her at her house with her Goldens and any fosters that she may have at the time. This organization is top notch and the people in charge truly care about these incredible creatures who come into our lives to make us better humans.
Our story started in 1996. My wife and I had made the decision to get a dog to round out our home. We knew that a rescue would be in our future because the need was so great. We wanted a large dog with a demeaner that was friendly to all. After a search of different rescue groups, we settled on GGRLC. The reason was twofold. The dogs in their care and the passion for which they advocated for those dogs. After our second rescue, we decided to take a more active role in the organization. I volunteered to work with intakes. There are numerous stories about why people give up their dogs. Each is deeply personal. More than once, I cried with those torn over their decision to give up their dog. And more than once did we fail at fostering. My wife has stepped up to help bring on new volunteers. As we have continued with the group, I feel confident in calling it a community. We all find the work to be extremely satisfying. The "Golden Meet-ups" give us a chance to interact with Golden adopters and see the happiness they share with their dog. What could be better?
I was looking for a golden retriever visiting their site and ore registered and had an appraiser come to our home to guarantee that we were suitable folks to adopt. When a golden appeared on the site I contacted them. They set up an appointment to visit him. When I sat on the couch he came immediately up to me and started lovingly into my eyes. I knew he was the one. I took him home right then and there. The process was so easy and preparation complete. His name was Sully but we had a nickname for him...GOOFY. He was the most adorable, smart and loving golden. It was through the efforts of Grateful Goldens that we were able to make him part of our family (we also had a female at the time and they became the closest buddies). I would highly, highly recommend being a part of Grateful Goldens. He is past now but we have many funny and loving memories if him. Thank you GRATEFUL GOLDENS.
We have adopted two dogs from Grateful Golden’s Rescue of the Lowcountry -
Maizie and Sadie. This organization is exceptional- they aggressively seek out golden’s who need to be rescued, match them with wonderful foster families, get their dogs the medical care they need, often times paying for very expensive care for sick dogs, and fully vet adoptive families to ensure that when dogs are adopted it is the best match for both dogs and families. The organization holds many fundraisers and we have volunteered at these events for many years. There is no overhead for GGRLC - it is 100% volunteer led and run. We love GGRLC - it is an absolutely TOP nonprofit and we encourage all to support them as a volunteer or donor.
