Giving Asha has helped the poorest girls in Kathmandu for almost 20 years. Those girls had almost no chance of success in life, especially in Nepal. The parents of most of these girls were in prison for a variety of offenses, and these children were put in group homes that tended to be almost as bad a prison. Giving Asha helped them primarily through education. However, when a girl's personal situation in one of the homes or their own home deteriorated to the point they needed to be taken out, they were put in a private hostel school that was paid for by Giving Asha. Others were reunited with their family to finish their education with the help of Giving Asha.
As a result of Giving Asha, all the girls have been educated in English. Through various means of support (emotional, financial or material) Giving Asha has had an impact on many girls. For example, 4 have university bachelor degrees, 2 are completing their bachelors degrees in Kathmandu while 1 is completing her MBA and 2 others are finishing their BAs in the US, The Giving Asha family boast nurses, several Montessori teachers, a school administrator, while others work in offices around Kathmandu and are living independently.
In addition, Giving Asha has directly influenced many others in Nepal, boys and girls who had no way out of extreme poverty are now successful men and women in their communities. They are entrepreneurs and business owners, the only medical practitioner within many miles in a remote area, more teachers, accountants and other successful workers in Nepal and around the world. And of course, each person who has risen above extreme poverty influences everyone they come in contact with, creating a solid movement of success even when Giving Asha is not directly involved.
