Mission: Girl scouts build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
Programs: Girl scouts of central indiana serves nearly 36,000 girls in 45 counties through the support of 15,000 adult volunteers. Nearly one-third of girls served are economically challenged. The girl scout leadership experience is a nationally defined program, which is customized to meet the needs of hoosier girls. In 2017, 489 program activities were offered, providing 17,852 girls with the opportunity to try something new. Activities included behind the blood, where girls learned about hematology, microbiology, and cytology at mid america clinical laboratories; cinderella on broadway, which provided an opportunity to view a real broadway performance; badge in the outdoors, where girls learned archery, canoeing, geocaching, and orienteering; and slumber at the speedway, where more than 3,500 girls tried various stem and healthy living activities and finished the day with a bike ride around the formula 1 course. The girl scout gold award, the highest award in girl scouts, was earned by 29 girl scout seniors and ambassadors. Their gold award projects ranged from building sun shelters and launching a community skin cancer prevention awareness program to promoting access to education by collecting and sending school supplies to developing nations. Also last year, 357 adult learning sessions were offered, providing educational opportunities to 3,556 volunteers. Those skills translate to better girl scout leadership experiences for girls. Our girl scout leadership experience is a one-of-a-kind leadership development program for girls, with proven results. It is based on time-tested methods and research-backed programming that help girls take the lead-in their own lives and in the world. Research shows that girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment. Girl scouts is a place where she'll practice different skills, explore her potential, take on leadership positions-and even feel allowed to fail, dust herself off, get up, and try again.
