Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid
Mission: The frisco roughriders foundation's purpose is to enhance the community it serves through charitable contributions, grants and programming initiatives by motivating and rewarding families and children in the areas of education, good health, and community service activities.
Programs: The frisco roughriders partnered with whataburger and carnival for three "kids night out" events this season. The foundation provided over 2,700 complimentary tickets and t-shirts to various nonprofit organizations in north texas. After the game, all the kids had the opportunity to run the bases. Big brothers/big sisters, boys and girls club, and the children's advocacy center were among the local non-profit agencies that attended. This program affords underserved families the opportunity to attend a minor league baseball game, many of whom might never have the chance to experience a professional sporting event. Kids night out allows children to witness the results of hard work, dedication, and teamwork - qualities needed to excel in all aspects of life.
the frisco roughriders foundation allocates a portion of its budget to grants and donations, which are awarded to numerous other nonprofit organizations throughout the year. The goal of this program is to assist organizations that help and support children and families, specifically in the areas of education, good health and community service. For "grants", in 2016, the frisco roughriders foundation contributed $30,000 to the assist the officer foundation, to honor the lives of five fallen dallas police officers, and to bring peace and comfort to the north texas community. The frisco roughriders foundation also gives donations to various local charities whose mission (determined by our board members) fits within the mission statement of our foundation. Donations are made on a discretionary basis throughout the year as needs arise or as certain requests are made. All donations must be unanimously approved by the board. During 2016, individual donations were given to 17 recipients, ranging from $440 to $8,000. Some of the largest recipients were: the american red cross, the uso-dfw, the kids shouldn't have cancer foundation, the do it for durrett foundation, hope's door, march of dimes, talk about curing autism, and the assistance center of collin county.
the foundation also awards scholarships to graduating high school students (currently 10 scholarships of $1,000 each). There is an application on our website. The student must reside in the dallas/fort worth metroplex and be a varsity athlete. Winners are selected by the board based on academic merit, financial need, and athletic accomplishments.
