Mission: To promote an informed awareness of native american history with an emphasis on the history of the seneca nation in relation to the iroquois confederacy.
Programs: Established in 1989 as an educational not for profit, friends of ganondagan lends support to help generate awareness and build capacity of ganondagan state historic site, the home of a 17th century native american (seneca) village in victor, ny. Through educational programming, events and projects friends of ganondagan promotes seneca and haudenosaunee (iroquois confederacy) history, culture and contemporary life while sharing haudensaunee values of peace, social justice and sustainability. With the help of more than 100 volunteers annually, friends of ganondagan's educational programming welcomes more that 3,000 local, regional, national, and international visitors to our festivals, workshops, film and author series, symposiums, commemorations, and events. Friends of ganondagan collaborates with like-minded, local not for profit organizations, colleges, and universities to create unique programming and ongoing partnerships. Our iroquois white corn project includes growing and processing the same heirloom, indigenous corn that was once grown in abundance at ganondagan. We further utilize the iroquois white corn project by incorporating indigenous food as a way to build community, enhance education and deepen understanding of haudenosaunee culture. Friends of ganondagan annually engages 12 youth in a job readiness and leadership program that provides opportunities for youth to gain a variety of job skills and leadership opportunities, while learning about haudenosaunee culture and traditions.
