Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed failed to help a grassroots effort to prevent development from negatively impacting a tributary of Corte Madera Creek. This small creek, referred to as Arroyo Holon or Larkspur Creek, has steelhead fingerlings in its waters. The Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed felt that the presence of these small fish were insignificant; instead they recommended that all non-native trees (which offer shelter for fish) be removed and that the developer be allowed to grade the land up to the creek edge. There was a viable option of gradually removing the non-native species of plants and trees, but the Friends of Corte Maders Creek Watershed would not consider this option. This group favors restoration of "native habitat" to the exclusion of other concerns for wildlife.
