Mission: We seek to assure access for families to a nutritionally adequate diet that supports development, learning, health and well-being. Our Washington,D.C.-based project, D.C. Hunger Solutions, is focused on ending hunger in the nation's capital.
Programs: Founded in 1970, the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) is the primary national training, technical assistance, advocacy, and public education center for the federal nutrition programs. We work in partnership with hundreds of national, state and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, associations and corporations to address hunger and its root cause, poverty. FRAC pursues a comprehensive national, state and local strategy. FRAC: . seeks improved public policies at the federal, state and local levels that will reduce hunger and under-nutrition; . monitors the implementation of laws and serves as a watchdog of nutrition programs; . provides information, technical assistance, training and support on nutrition program and anti-poverty issues to a nationwide network of anti-hunger advocates, afterschool, summer and child care providers, and school program administrators; . issues reports, analyses and descriptions of best practices and strategies to expand program coverage in the federal nutrition programs; . conducts research to document the extent of hunger and its impact on children, seniors, and others; and . conducts media and public information campaigns to foster program participation and promote changes in public attitudes and policies.
