I have had the honor to help save and improve the lives of animals while volunteering with this organization. FLSARC helps animals and their pet parent during natural and manmade disasters. They train and manage a team of pet passionate volunteers to manage temporary emergency shelters when a disaster strikes or when local organizations become overwhelmed.

During the recent hurricane season, FLSARC volunteers managed numerous pet friendly shelters in numerous Florida counties. They provided supplies to care and house animals when their pet parents lost everything. They assisted in rescues of flooded areas when helpless animals were left behind.

Animals have become part of the family. FLSARC is a non profit organization who has a proven track record of achieving its mission.

I have been going to meetings for 5 years. I had a chance to utilize what I have been taught 2 times in the past year. Last November we were asked to set up a shelter in Sarasota county for people coming from the east coast. 5 student that had been taught by SARC volunteers in our class came to the site and set up the shelter. They set up the shelter in less than 2 hours. We could have handled over 20 0 dogs, Only 4 were housed however the greatest part was that students set up the site..........
This year we had Irma and several students again helped. In this situation we set up 5 shelters and had over 2200 animals. The students helped set up and register animals. Though only a few students helped, I personally drove over 600 miles between shelters and organized the shelters before, during and after the storm. 50 students then helped wash and scrub 450 cages for the county. I stayed overnight at two different shelters for 4 nights.
I helped coordinate the program and talked directly to county staff during the storm and after the storm. What I was taught was extremely useful as 3shelters had over 500 dogs and cats and 2 had over 300. Some shelters only animals were allowed in and one allowed people to stay with their animals.
Though the training was primarily for after a storm, my training helped me during the storm and I am very grateful for the information and advice...
Finally, SARC helped train 50 students last year and if not for IRMA would have done so this year. It is my hope that we will be able to reschedule in the spring.....I have shared much of the info with my student, however, the class with those who have had previous experience was great.
Thanks Again,
Randy Thies

FL SARC is the best organization to happen to Florida animals and those who love them. As a training center for FL SARC, Cat Depot is privileged. Nine years ago, members of the FL SARC team moved 200 cats from our old facility to our existing adoption center. We respected their training and organized skills back then, and that admiration has only grown. Should disaster strike, our staff and area volunteers are trained and ready. When Hurricane Irma was approaching, qualified members helped us prepare to evacuate 150 cats. They also helped us TNVR over 35 cats last weekend when we were suddenly short skilled trappers. Cat Depot is fortunate to reside in the state with an organization like FL SARC.

The emergency animal sheltering classes are chock full of great information! Even if you can't volunteer in a disaster, the classes will give you a lot of insight to how disasters and disaster response work! I highly recommend them!

Florida SARC does a great service for Florida's citizens and our animals in need. During Hurricane Irma, SARC responded to counties across the state to ensure their pet shelters had the supplies they needed and the shelter staff possible to accommodate our citizens evacuating with their pets. SARC also stepped into action with the state of Florida and the Florida National Guard to coordinate the pick up and transportation of pet sheltering supplies to a vulnerable southwest county in urgent need as Hurricane Irma's path was approaching their county's area. Not only is SARC one of Florida's leading emergency animal response teams, SARC also plays a critical role in training our citizens and counties to become better prepared in emergency animal sheltering and reducing the effects of disaster on a community.

FL SARC team members are simply the best in the disaster response arena when it comes to handling and caring for the animals we love. A highly trained group who will take on the challenges of emergency sheltering for animals in most all situations that occur. I have been responding with the team since nearly its inception and can tell you it is a honor to work with so many dedicated hard working team members. Why? Because the entire family matters! :)

Our organization hosts the FL SARC Team several times a year. The Team Leaders are always on time, organized, and well versed in their knowledge they share. We have had the pleasure of hosting new trainees at the FL SARC Trainings from as far as South Carolina and Miami here in Sarasota Florida. This is a great group to work with and learn from!

I started with FL SARC (Florida State Animal Response Coalition, Inc) by taking a course on emergency animal sheltering. I thought I would learn more about pets so I took the training. What I learned is how animals/pets matter and that we must prepare to respond in an emergency.

They truly care about pets. The are a model organization that other states are learning from.

Great place to donate funds and to volunteer to help.
