Results: According to the USDA Census of Agriculture in 2012 the number of African American farmers in the United States was 44,629 with 33,371 of them being principal operators. African American farm operators tend to be older with smaller farms, fewer acres, and lower sales but with the same challenges as larger farms only fewer opportunities.
