A great mission, keeping children and their families together during their time of crisis. This is why I joined the Board of Family Promise CMC. We are having an impact and making a huge difference in th lives of many. Please see our website www.familypromisecmc.org and support our mission. Thank you, Bob Ashman
Family Promise of Cape May is an extraordinary organization dedicated to helping homeless families regain stability and self-sufficiency through compassionate and ongoing support. They foster a true community of care, where people genuinely look out for one another. I've had the privilege of volunteering here for the past few years, and the experience has been incredibly rewarding. When I moved here full-time, I wanted to find a meaningful way to give back, and Family Promise has provided that opportunity in spades. This organization addresses one of our community’s most pressing challenges, and it’s a blessing to be part of such a committed and loving group. I can’t say enough about the wonderful people I’ve met and the impact Family Promise makes every day.
I have been involved with Family Promise for a number of years and have seen firsthand the wonderful work they DO and HAVE done in helping homeless families get back on their feet. Family Promise not only helps families who are currently homeless, but they also work with the community at large to prevent homelessness. The staff is a team of professionals who work tirelessly to help those in need. I believe I am a better person for knowing and working with the volunteers and staff in helping Family Promise achieve its goals.
Family Promise of Cape May County has touched the lives of so many in our community, personally it has been a blessing to volunteer for the last seven years with so many wonderful people. There are so many times I have witnessed the gratitude of families who are given support, shelter, counseling and the tools they need to move forward.
One of these families who were part of the program more than ten years ago now lives and works in North Carolina. She is giving back to her local community and also supports Family Promise of CMC, who gave her a second chance. Her daughter who is now a student in university in NC visits homeless shelters supporting the children, this family has come full circle and it is so heartwarming. Only one example of the many families Family Promise has helped over the last fifteen years.
I've been volunteering for Family Promise of CMC since I retired and moved here in 2018 and have served on the Board for several years as well. This organization drew me in by its loving and caring passion for helping others in crisis, particularly families with children. We've undergone some significant change during the past two years, but we've emerged stronger and wiser for the effort. God has blessed this organization with a committed Director, Family Advocate and a staff and volunteers who consider each other family. When I retired, I was looking for a way to give back. I found it through managing the Full of Promise Thrift Shop in Rio Grande, which provides opportunities to not only aid the organization financially, but serve a community in need by recycling donations that we then pass along to our families for free and our loyal shoppers for reasonable prices in these times of rising retail prices and limited supplies, all the while keeping those donations out of landfills. While the effort is great, the benefit to the community at large is even greater! Thank you to all those who donate, shop and volunteer for this much-needed organization!
I have donated to this wonderful organization every year. They do meaningful work for families in crisis. I urge you to support them also.
Many homeless children are sheltered with their families by this local nonprofit. Families are given support and hope.
I have been a volunteer with Family Promise for 12 of their 15 years. I was, and still am impressed with the passion with which the organization accomplishes its goals. The Family Promise mission is 3 tiered….prevention, sheltering, and stabilization for families with children who are in a housing crisis. Staff, volunteers and donors make it possible to support local families in their time of need.

I started volunteering in the Full of Promise Thrift Shop in 2017 when it opened and I have been there ever since. I have watched it grow from a small store to a lovely bigger store that has surpassed its goals in order to help homeless families in our area. The fellow volunteers have all become friends and we all enjoy meeting with customers in the store and helping in whatever capacity we can. This has been a wonderful experience for me and my family.
Family Promise of Cape May County helps homeless families in countless ways, changing lives for the better forever. I began volunteering at their Center in 2016 and had the chance to directly interact with families in distress as well as help the social worker with administrative support. In 2017 the Full of Promise Thrift Store opened in Rio Grande to help financially back Family Promise and I’ve been volunteering there ever since. I cannot say enough good things about the community, my fellow volunteers, the way that everyone contributes their time, energy and talent for this amazing cause.

After I retired, I began looking for volunteer opportunities to keep myself busy. After trying a few that "just did not fit" I happened upon the Family Promise Thrift Shop and decided to stop in. The shop was lovely and while I was paying for my items, something (that still small voice of God) was telling me that I should inquire about volunteer opportunities. I was directed to Laurie Johnson with whom I met about a week later. That meeting with Laurie was all it took to convince me to become a member of the "Family" and I have never looked back. This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, from the family of other volunteers, who are all like-minded and wonderful, loving people, to the customers who visit our shop. It truly gives me so much pleasure to think that I am contributing in even a small way to help people who have come upon hard times. I don't think there is anything better in the world than helping one another. And, to top it off, we have a lot of fun!
I first learned about Family Promise of Cape May County when the church I attend would house the families at night. It was the first thing I wanted to become involved with once I moved here full time. Unfortunately, Covid happened and everything changed. So, I called Family Promise and met with Laurie Johnson! She explained the mission of Family Promise with such passion and love that I never looked back. Her faith in Jesus and passion for the cause was palpable and contagious. Since then I have continuously witnessed God at work. We joke at the thrift store that whenever we mention that we are running low on something, it suddenly shows up from the donors. It is difficult to put into words how I feel about the team of dedicated, hardworking and loving volunteers that I now call friends. I love my Family Promise family and will always do whatever I can to keep the mission alive.
My wife and both volunteer at Family Promise of Cape May. The dedicated folks at Family Promise do everything they can to prevent homelessness for families before it happens, PREVENTION - Rent support, job training, financial counseling, collaboration with other non profits in a do what ever it takes before they become homeless. Sometimes there is no way to prevent the homelessness if it happens due to the property burns down, or it gets sold or..... TEMPORARY HOUSING - Family Promise has a few locations that they can put Families up temporarily, and again they work with other non profits and governmental agencies to find temporary housing while they work to find permanent house. Again a variety of support is available, same as before becoming homeless, Once a housing solution is found they work on Keeping The Promise - that is continuing to work with the family as necessary to keep them moving forward.
