Mission: To provide homeless families with temporary accommodations as well as case management services to help families gain self sufficiency.
Programs: 2017 outcomes family and youth homelessness continue to be a growing concern for our berks county community. In 2018, most of the local shelters and transitional housing programs remain at full capacity on an ongoing basis. Limited resources persist for those experiencing housing insecurity. In 2017, we served hundreds of local families, children and homeless youth through our hospitality network, u-turn and rent & utility assistance programs. * 143 of those individuals enrolled in our programs * 11,000+ meals were served * 3,722+ bed nights were provided * 14,248+ hours of volunteer service were facilitated * 85% of the families in the hospitality network successfully transitioned into permanent housing * 88% of the homeless youth served through u-turn resolved housing insecurity * 100% of the individuals served with rent & utility assistance entered positive permanent housing destinationshospitality network programthis 90-day program offers case management and shelter to homeless families. It is designed to help individuals achieve sustainable independence while engaging people with diverse backgrounds to come together and form lasting partnerships. Our unique model recognizes that maintaining family units increases successful outcomes. The latter allows couples or single parents to remain with their children while being sheltered versus being separated by gender. In 2017, guests who enrolled in programming received: * safe overnight and day shelter * private sleeping space for each family * housing, education & employment assistance * coordination of services & referrals * life skills workshops * transportation * meals * mediation * advocacyoutcomes * 57 individuals enrolled in our 90-day intensive case management program and hospitality rotation * 40 were children under the age of 18 * 13 families were served * 85% of the families in the hospitality network successfully transitioned into permanent housing * 3,722+ bed nights were provided * 11,000+ meals were served * 56. 1 days was the average length of stayu-turn programthis program offers case management and drop-in center facilities to unaccompanied/homeless youth in berks county. It is designed to help individuals achieve educational, employment and housing stabilization goals. Our approach to service is based on community building and cooperation. In 2017, youth who enrolled in programming received assistance with: * housing stabilization * employment search * interview preparation * budget counseling * education planning * mediation * counseling * coordination of services * referrals * advocacy * an address to receive mail * transportation * laundry facilities * shower facilities * kitchen facilities * social services applications * education applications * facilitation of college tours * education programs * fafsa applicationsoutcomes * 42 homeless students worked with case managers to stabilize housing insecurity * 11 school districts with identified homeless students were served including: reading, governor mifflin, conrad weiser, wilson, thomas ford, boyertown, fleetwood, i-lead, wyomissing, exeter and antietam * 88% of the homeless youth served through u-turn resolved housing insecurity * housing situations were stabilized for all youth * eviction was resolved for 37 youth * 12 youth gained employment while successfully remaining in schoolrental & utility assistance programthis program provides temporary rental and utility assistance to individuals facing a housing crisis. Homelessness can be prevented through early intervention. The latter reduces overall cost of service for providers and the community alike. In 2017, qualifying individuals received assistance with: * mediation * advocacy * counseling * education programs * training programs * referrals to service partners * monitoring and coordination of services * habitability inspection * lead-based paint assessment of housing unitoutcomes * 100% of the individuals served with rent & utility assistance entered positive permanent housing destinations * 27 individuals received assistance through rapid rehousing; 16 were adults, 11 were children * 17 individuals received assistance through homeless prevention; 8 were adults, 9 were children
