Mission: The purpose of the organization is to promote the interests of and facilitate the provision of aid to the families of the victims of the september 11 terrorist attacks, and to support public policies and educational curricula and programming that improve the understanding and prevention of and the response to terrorism. Membership is also open to the families of people who died in related acts of terrorism and violence, such as the anthrax attacks
Programs: The organization has developed a database of victims' family members and the genral public, including educators; has advised the justice department of how best to evaluate claims on the victims compensation fund; has discussed plans for memorials at the attack site; has connected families to social service agencies and direct providers; has disseminated information and educational lessons about recommendations relating to public safety and security; and has supported understanding of mental health issues particular to public trauma.
