Eugene Area Gleaners is a fantastic non profit. It is run by and for the folks who participate. They keep 1000 of pounds of food from the waste stream and in the hands of folks who need the food. Food ranges from organic vegetables to packaged treats. It also provides a format for folks to share their local food resources and build community.
I recently joined Eugene Area Gleaners and was pleased to see the level of organization and communication established to bring the Eugene community together with local farmers. This group does a phenomenal job of salvaging food that would otherwise go to waste directly from orchards, fields and local businesses, and putting it into the hands of locals to feed their families. This group promotes a healthy community and sustainable environmental practices. In a decisive time with many financial and environmental pressures, I'm pleased to see a group like this aimed to ease strain on household finances and the environmental while bringing together people of many different walks of life. The world needs more cohesive, welcoming, community centric groups like this!
A wonderful service for our community that provides staples for many people. Our family of 4 has benefited greatly from the opportunities and food this group gleans from the community.
Four years ago I was laid off of work and after the awkward shock of losing my job settled in I was determined to make use of my time. I began volunteering. it provided an opportunity to build a sense of accomplishment and pride in helping my community; while simultaneously providing an avenue to food security for my family. The organization is special in its volunteer efforts fulfill 100% of the work, and it is flexible in your commitment. I can give my time freely when I have it and retreat into my responsibilities as those obligations arise. There is real community and good being built continually. This group in the past ten years has innovated grown, and continually looked forward together.
Eugene Area Gleaners is an amazing resource for people who need help or who want to reduce food waste in our community.
The Eugene Area Gleaners has basically fed me the entire summer and into the fall, ever since I joined. There are regular opportunities to take part in gleans to get fruit and vegetables, and even sometimes other proteins. Every week there is also several times you can pick up bread products at various local locations. There are a lot of volunteers needed to make the group successful, and the people who do volunteer are very much appreciated! I enjoy the opportunity to learn about seasonal foods and how to prepare them from seasoned gleaners in the group. A great group with a great cause.
I have been with the Eugene Area Gleaners for over two years. It is a wonderful opportunity to help reduce my footprint by gathering my own food and keeping it from going to waste. We share equipment and knowledge with each other to make the most out of the food we glean. I feel fortunate to be a part of this group.

This volunteer only non-profit is wonderful! The gleans come in fast and furious just the way I like it. We get a variety of produce and are supported with education on preserving and recipes. We touch each others lives while we provide for our families. It is a bonus knowing we are keeping produce from rotting on the trees/vines or going in the landfill. It is also rewarding that the produce is locally grown and our children get to see where their food is coming from. No better feeling then seeing a stocked pantry with home canned goods. Can't say enough great things about this non-profit
My family has been involved with EAG for several years. I love that we are able to help prevent food waste while feeding families in the community and my own family.
The Eugene Area Gleaners makes it possible to fill my freezer with all sorts of goodies that may otherwise go to waste. They are easy to work with, the gleaning process is easy to understand thanks to our terrific leaders, and whenever I've attended a glean, I come home with a lot of delicious food for my family.
I was told about the Gleaners through a friend of mine. I had no idea what it was or what it did. I looked in dictionary for the definition and was amazed that there was something like this around, so of course I joined. I have enjoyed getting out and helping our local farmers and J.Q. Public with the trees in their yards. Our group is growing and learning and I hope to grow along with it.
It pains me to see food go to waste when I know there are hungry people in our community. I also enjoy preserving food for storage for my families reserves. The Eugene Area Gleaners is an amazing nonprofit group that brings my love for gardening and food preservation together and helps ensure food is not wasted but rather shared within our community and those who may be food insecure. I love the camaraderie and fun I have when I'm out on a glean with others and the sharing and caring that is prevalent within our group. Our group received a donation of seeds and as I plot out my own garden I'm sprouting twice as many to share back with the group because those who have extra garden space also grow extra food to share. This is an amazing group of people doing great work within our community.
