Mission: The agency supports the development and learning of young children by offering programs and services that improve the quality and accessibility of child care for working families. This includes customized child care referrals for families and professional development and resources.
Programs: Services to child care providers and programs. The agency provided approximately 1,701 child care programs in thirty-three counties in eastern kansas with access to resources, consultation services, and professional development. All programs received ongoing education through written materials and technical assistance by phone and/or on-site consultation focused at helping child care providers improve the quality of care offered to young children.
child care referrals to families. Referrals were provided to 10,988 families, serving 19,004 children throughout the state of kansas seeking child care for young children. Consumer education was offered to every family to assist them in recognizing and choosing high quality child care that would meet the needs of their children and family. Referrals are conducted by telephone, in person, and online with most families receiving multiple child care referrals as well as information about community resources and child development.
