Causes: Human Services, Neighborhood Centers
Mission: To share god's love by addressing the needs of children, youth and adults through programs and services that encourage them to become self-sufficient, caring and participating members of the community. The elca outreach center offers a free clothing closet, free legal advice, personal care items, summer camp for grade school children and workshops.
Programs: Outreach - over 1,800 individual clients were served by the elca outreach center at least once during 2017. Over 150 people received free legal advice from eight attorneys providing pro-bono service. Prescription co-pay vouchers were written for a total of $4,837 in kenosha county. The free clothing closet had over 8,000 visits.
youth programs - over 140 grade school children participated in summer camp with five college students leading the camp and ten high school students helping. Daily attendance was over 90 children. Over 300 children received school supplies in august to be ready for the new school year. Thanks to many generous organizations, churches and individuals, over 1,000 children received christmas gifts through the center. 90 children attended the annual christmas party along with their parents. 80 volunteers helped make the evening a success.
adult education - spanish ged students took eight tests while an average of 10 adult students attended class. An english ged class was held with five students attending. Each week, the center collaborates with the job center to provide a self-improvement workshops designed to improve client's lives and help them become self-sufficient. In collaboration with kenosha unified school district, the center hosts monthly chat-n-chews (parent information/education sessions).
