Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid
Mission: To open the education gateway to students who are academically gifted and have limited access to financial resources. Our students and their families reside in the rural areas of Jamaica where families have limited job opportunities. Therefore, we will provide scholarships for these 26 that we supported in 2015 and raise funds for an additional 26 for the 2016-2017 academic year. We endeavor to engage one student at a time so that we can impact many students.
Results: Since starting in August of 2014, EGF has support 13 primary schools in Jamaica and has provided 26 scholarships of $250 each to students. We will begin fundraising for our second group of students.
Target demographics: students and families experiencing financial difficulties.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 13 schools in Clarendon, Jamaica by providing 26 scholarships at $250 each ($100 for uniform and $150 for textbooks). We also provided bursary of $50 to 19 additional students. In addition, we hired a tailor who made the uniform. This had a direct economic impact on the local community. Our textbooks were purchased from a local, independently owned bookstore.
Geographic areas served: Jamaica
Programs: EGF Scholars Program for sixth grade students where they work on their academics throughout the year and have an opportunity later in the year to apply for our scholarships.
