Mission: To serve individuals, families and communities impacted by physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and to promote healthy, equitable, violence-free relationships.
Programs: Dsvs provided emergency shelter, transportation, food/clothing, 24 hour help line support, crisis intervention, legal advocacy and education for 146 women, children, and men (victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking). These services are provided by dsvs staff and our core of helpline volunteers. Volunteers provided 7,200 hours to dsvs in 2017. In 2017, we also added back a service thanks to a federal grant- transitional housing will be available to survivors in carbon and stillwater county. We have continued to provide emergency finanical assistance to survivors in park, sweet grass and meagher counties with our partnership with aspen.
"power up, speak out! " is a five lesson toolkit for educators that encourages middle school students to think critically about healthy relationships, power dynamics, boundaries, and consent. During the 2016-2017 school year, power up educators worked directly in our local schools (elementary, middle, and high schools), boys & girls club, and adults with disabilities programs for 227. 5 hours, reaching over 350 youth and adults with our healthy relationship lessons. Statewide, montana educators using power up, speak out! Lessons reached 8,852 students. Workshops to train educators were held in billings, luther, red lodge, and casper, wyoming. Our red lodge mentoring program has expanded to include elementary school students this year, as well as middle and high school. We currently have paired 32 students with a caring adult from our community. Mentoring pairs eat lunch together once a week during the school year and spend time together during other special occasions throughout the school year. During the 2017-2018 school year, we've been reaching out to other states. We presented at school counselor conferences in colorado and idaho. We are seeking grant funding for an evaluation of our program. Our program was highlighted in distinctly montana magazine in the fall of 2017.
