Causes: Philanthropy, Philanthropy, Charity & Voluntarism Promotion
Mission: Datakind focuses its resources on strengthening the national and global impact of nongovernmental organizations, philanthropic foundations, governments, and other charitable organizations. Datakind aims to bridge the gap between these two communities, thus allowing the data science community to divert its energies to socially conscious applications and the nonprofit community to benefit from data analysis. Through this partnership, charitable organizations will be better able to collect, organize, analyze, and visualize data, derive meaning from that data, and through this combined effort of strategic analysis, improve their operations and social impact.
Programs: In-house team: datakind's in-house team is deployed for full-time engagements on cross-sector problems that involve many stakeholders. Solutions are built to create sector-wide change and stand as exemplars of data science for good for all communities.
datacorps: our flagship program, the datacorps unites teams of pro bono data scientists with social change organizations for 6-9 months to design data-driven solutions to their challenges, giving them hands-on learning in the process.
chapters: chapters are our main vehicle for scaling our work while simultaneously learning and improving. Our volunteer-led chapters bring our programmatic work to cities around the world, providing more services to organizations as well as experimenting with improvements to our process.
datadive: a datadive is a collaborative weekend-long work session where volunteers analyze, visualize, and mashup data to give their partner organizations initial insights or prototypes to inform their work. Datadives serve as a unique opportunity for attendees to learn and test out new skill sets, build cross-industry connections, and utilize their talents to produce actionable, meaningful results for mission driven organizations.
