Programs: Community Building/Affiliate Component: Communicating the needs, challenges and contributions of the Hispanic community to our Network of Affiliates and brokering solutions for a healthier, better educated, financially stable Dallas. Hispanic Role Models: Our innovative new program provides young Hispanic professionals opportunities to contribute their time, talent and treasure to strengthen Dallas County. As they share their challenges and accomplishments with Hispanic youth, their personal and professional success will be a catalyst for effecting positive changes and transforming lives. They will provide support for new behaviors, attitudes and ambitions in our future community leaders.Latino Initiative for Diabetes Education and Risk-Reduction (LIDER): This initiative is a multi-faceted project that encourages organizations and groups to develop wellness programs that promote healthy lifestyles to prevent and control diabetes in the Hispanic/Latino community.Pasos Saludables ('Healthy Steps'): This walking program promotes physical activity through personal commitment to increase steps. Groups meet regularly at schools and other locations to walk.Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE): The curriculum encourages parents to take a participatory role in assisting their children to improve the parent/child relationship, remain in school, improve their performances in class, graduate from high school, attend a college or a university and earn a degree.Parents Advocating for Student Excellence (PASE): Recognizing that parents of high school students have different motivations behind their involvement in their children?s academic achievement, PASE was created out of PIQE to meet the special issues faced at the high school level.Psyched About Science and Math (PASM): The objective of the program is to encourage socio-economically disadvantaged fifth grade students to stay in school and to expose them to careers in science, math, and health.
