Mission: The Council of Community Services provides leadership for organizations and individuals in the areas of planning, information, and referral services to improve the quality of life in our communities.

Programs: The child and adult care food program receives virginia department of health funds, which flow-through to home care providers for serving nutritious meals to qualifying children. Most of the children who benfit from this program are under the age of 5. Research indicates that 90% of brain development occurs before age five and good nutrition is critical to brain development. Over 3,000 children benefit from this program each year.

the ryan white care services program receives federal funds via the virginia department of health to act as the lead agency for the ryan white title b grant, which provides flow-through funds to agencies providing direct services to hiv positive individuals. This program added an additional subcontractor who provides direct service to hiv positive individuals this reporting year. The program provided care for over 900 clients, revised site visit evaluation tools and conducted a needs assessment.

the 2-1-1 virginia service receives federal funds via the virginia department of social services to act as the sole source contractor for the statewide 2-1-1 system. Funds are dispersed from the council to four other information and referral centers throughout the commonwealth of virginia. 2-1-1 is an easy to remember phone number that is staffed by trained community resource specialists who are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to residents of the commonwealth of virginia looking for information and referrals to health and human services. In 2014, the 2-1-1 program responded to over 150,000 requests for assistance.

planning provides information to community funders, governments and human service agencies, which is used to plan for new or expanded programs addressing community human service needs.
