Mission: Empower children and their families by providing a strong foundation through early care and education
Programs: Sponsor of the child and adult care food program (cacfp)which provides reimbursement for meals served in family child care homes. Licensed childcare providers are recruited, trained, monitored and reimbursed for nutritious meals served that meet federal food guidelines appropriate for young children. Meals are also provided in childcare centers run by ccd.
provide early childhood education and care for children of low-income families who are working or in vocational training. Families at risk for abuse or neglect are also eligible for these services. Trained teachers certified by the california department of education along with additional support staff work with children in an enriched, developmentally appropriate environment in child development centers run by ccd and in a network of licensed family child care homes. Parents are assisted with resources and referrals to various social service and other support agencies in the community. Children range in age from four months to kindergarten.
ccd is a recipient of a city of long beach, housing and urban development (hud) shp grant for early childhood education and care programs for families experiencing homelessness. Ccd is part of the long beach continuum of care for the homeless, a collaborative of service proivders who offer support to famlies living at the villages at cabrillo, in the adjacent transitional housing faicilities next door to ccd's child development center. The goal of this project is to provide a variety of supports for these extremely fragile families as they seek and maintain permanent housing and stabilize the other important elements of their lives.
