Mission: The mission of cove is to provide shelter, protection and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as to educate the community on the root causes of violence. Services are provided in mason, lake and oceana counties to men, women and their children.
Programs: Domestic violence programs includes a crisis line that cove operates 24 hour, 365 days a year devoted to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault victim's emergency needs. The crisis line offers safety planning, emotional support, options for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault and referrals and information. The crisis line is manned by trained staff and volunteers and is typically the point of entry for other services such as emergency shelter and sexual assault nurse exams. Crisis line staff dispatch on call advocates and sexual assault nurse examiners if additional support is needed beyond phone conversation for in person crisis response. Continued on schedule o emergency shelter - cove provides a state of the art, purpose driven 24 hours, 365 days a year emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. It is the first of its kind in michigan combining its offices and shelter set up to resemble transitional housing units. Residents have semi-private individual living quarters as opposed to traditional shelter communal living. The shelter houses men, women and their children. Advocacy - cove provides legal, medical and personal advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for both shelter residents and non-residential clients and their children. Safety planning and confidentiality are priorities for cove advocates. Advocates walk alongside a client and help support their individual needs and goals. They accompany people to court, assist with housing needs, meet clients at the hospital, transport clients when needed, assist with completing victims compensation forms, share knowledge about the legal process and assist in navigating the legal system. Cove advocates give victims of domestic violence and sexual assault a voice when it hasn't been heard, they defend and safeguard client's rights, provide information, knowledge, resources and options to help ensure clients can make informed decisions.
sexual assault nurse examiners (sane) program - cove's sane program provides client centric safe personalized, coordinated services to victims of sexual assault including sexual assault forensic evidence collection and exams. The sane program helps to coordinate in one place: a community response of victim's health care needs with forensic evidence collection by specifically trained sexual assault nurse examiners; meet victim's emotional needs through advocates; and their legal needs and rights if they choose to move forward with law enforcement. Sexual assault exams and evidence collection are provided for men, women and children ages 12 and up free of charge twenty-four hours a day under the direction of a medical doctor.
