Mission: CMCK Foundations was founded by Conni McKenzie, a creative professional working in the Bay Area. After starting to work in a creative agency following graduation, she found herself in many spaces where she was the only Black identifying individual and felt called to make the effort to bring more Black talent into the business. “As a Black woman, having a career in the business of arts and culture is not simply a pursuit of my burning desire to create. Rather, it is inspired by the ability to contribute or change the narrative that our culture carries and wanting to have the power to make those choices.” CMCK Foundations is beginning its pilot program, the Creative Dreamer’s Scholarship in 2022. The program is designed to give college students the means and connections to secure a job after college. McKenzie hopes that the program will encourage students to think bigger about their creative passions and start understanding the ways they can turn their talents into careers.
