Circle Of Concern

Programs: Food pantry distributions:in 2017, circle of concern fed approximately 3,365 individuals, serving approximately 1,179 households throughout west st. Louis county. Through monthly appointments, families met with volunteer intake workers to discuss simple budgeting, obstacles, additional programs and community resources; and progress toward personal and household goals. Client families received a variety of nonperishable items and fresh foods - including eggs, dairy, produce and frozen meats; as well as detergent, diapers and personal care items.

birthday and holiday program:families that struggle to pay their monthly expenses often do without during the holidays. Through fundraising events and community food drives, circle was able to provide client families with all the fixings to make thanksgiving dinner for their families. Our holiday adoption event brought together caring individuals, schools, churches and businesses with families in need. Through our holiday adoption event, client families completed "wish lists, and "adopters" worked to provide much-needed items, along with some "wish" items. 479 familes benefited from the holiday adoption event. And finally, throughout the year, 378 client children under the age of 12 received hand-selected gifts, books and toys to celebrate their birthdays.

financial assistance:in 2017, over 337 families received emergency financial assistance, most often to prevent eviction or utility shut-off - circumstances that can lead to serious hardship for families; especially when children are involved. Assistance was also provided for smaller, though urgent needs - a gift card to help with the purchase of gasoline or prescription medication. In the summer months, box fans were shared, along with a limited number of small window air conditioner units - most often to help a sick senior.
