Mission: The children's home of poughkeepsie is a community-based, non-profit agency dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment that improves lives and empowers at risk children and families in the hudson valley and surrounding communities.
Programs: Institutional care - we provide 24 hour care for children and youth who have been removed from their families due to abuse and or neglect. The children's home provides a complete array of care and services to children including food, clothing, shelter, medical care, recreational services, social services, psychological and psychiatric care, transportation and family court interface. All children and youth in the program attend community schools. The average length of stay for children in the residential program is 8. 8 months. 36 children and youth were served in the program during the year. There were 14 admissions and 15 discharges. 2 children were returned to their biological family or a relative. 6 children were discharged to other programs.
agency boarding homes - we provide 24 hour community-based care for both boys and girls in agency boarding homes. Agency boarding homes house six children. Services include room and board, medical care, psychological or psychiatric care, recreational services, social services, and education support. Youth in the program average 16. 3 years of age and stay with the children's home an average of 9. 2 months. All children and youth in the program attend community schools. The program served 26 children during the year with 9 admissions and 20 discharges.
emergency care - we provide emergency services to children and youth removed from their families, because of imminent harm, by the dutchess, orange, putnam, schenectady, sullivan, and ulster counties departments of social services child protective services. Emergency services include room and board, medical evaluation, psychological and psychiatric assessment and evaluation, appropriate social services, supervised visiting and medical services. Program staff provide advisory and consultative services to department of social services staff outplacement disposition. The average length of stay for children in the emergency program is 48 days. 183 children were served in the program during the year. There were 158 admissions and 155 discharges. 58 children returned to their birth family or were placed with a relative. 29 children were discharged to other programs.
