Mission: The chaves county retired senior volunteers foundation, inc has managed the retired senior volunteer program (rsvp) since 1991. The mission of the foundation is to support the rsvp project by encouraging an active lifestyle for those 55 and older by offering quality volunteer opportunities while meeting community needs.
Programs: Provide food boxes to the elderly, unemployed and disadvantaged; education for healthy eating; distribute information to the elderly, homeless and veterans; to increase access to care and services; provide support to veterans and their families; help build homes for low income families.
chaves county rsvp has been providing volunteers and volunteer services to a number of public and private entities in chaves county since its inception in 1975. Volunteers have been assigned to non-profit organizations that distribute food to the disadvantaged such as good samaritan, harvest ministries, loaves and fishes, community kitchen, and roadrunner mobile food pantries in roswell, hagerman, dexter and lake arthur. These organizations all exist to address food security issues. Rsvp volunteers have also been assigned to organizations that address education such as the roswell independent school district, assumption catholic church, the roswell literacy council, the new mexico youth challenge, and the roswell job corps. Rsvp volunteers have also served at organizations such as the roswell humane society, the eastern nm medical center thrift shop, and the nm senior olympics to help these organizations build and strengthen their capacity. Other stations where rsvp volunteers serve include, but are not limited to, the chaves county joy center, the roswell adult and senior center, the southeastern nm veterans transportation network, the patriot guard, the kids kloset, senior circle, the assurance home and habitat for humanity.
