Mission: The Chapel Hill- Carrboro - UNC Crime Stoppers organization was founded in 1993 by Rick Ennis, Sr., in an effort to help stimulate local crime awareness and provide an anonymous avenue for citizens to relate important information about criminal activity and unsolved crimes. Crime Stoppers does this by providing and promoting a special telephone number for concerned citizens to report any information they may have regarding any unsolved crime. Since no caller information is obtained, the informant can provide this information confidentially and anonymously. Any information that leads to an arrest is eligible for a reward of up to $1200.00. Additionally, the organization has recently set up a community scholastic Crime Stoppers program within the highschools and middleschools in an effort to reduce crime and to promote safer schools. Chapel Hill - Carrboro - UNC Crime Stoppers is also affiliated with Triangle Crime Stoppers (226-CRIME) which provides toll free access to Crime Stoppers Agencies from anywhere in the Research Triangle Area.
