Results: We rank as one of the top food banks in the nation for operational performance. In 2008, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank distributed 15.7 million pounds of food, valued at $26.5 million.

Programs: During fy2015, central pennsylvania food bank once again achieved charity navigator's 4-star rating, and was also named on its nationwide "10 top-notch charities" list. We distributed over 40 million pounds of food, equivalent to over 33 million meals, and served over 60,000 people each week across central pennsylvania. We also recognized positive cash flows from operating activities of $203,649, and our program expenses equaled 97% of our total expenses. The net deficit reported this year is the result of deliberate program growth, continued investment in our community partners, as well as enhancements to our inventory valuation process - necessary steps towards achieving our bold goal of ending hunger in central pennsylvania by 2025.
central pennsylvania food bank maintains a permanent endowment fund, pursuant to best practices, which is focused on strategic initiatives and the long-term sustainability of the food bank. Since its inception in 2009, the fund has provided over $1. 8 million dollars in funding grants and capital projects that directly increased food distribution in our service territory. Many of these expenditures consist of refrigeration equipment for our agency partners, which greatly increases our ability to distribute fresh food and produce to people in need. central pennsylvania food bank supports and operates many programs that specifically address childhood hunger in central pennsylvania, where 1 in 5 children are at risk of going hungry. During fy2015, the collective efforts of the kids cafe, school breakfast, after-school meals, summer feeding, and backpack programs served over 1. 6 million wholesome and nutritious meals to children in need, which included fruits, vegetables, and fresh milk - vital components to the growth and development of all children.
