CEPR is a progressive think tank that punches above its weight. I donate to this organization knowing that a little goes a long way toward promoting policies that help struggling families. Economist Dean Baker, CEPR's co-director, was ahead of his profession in alerting the world to the dangers of a housing bubble collapse, and he and his team consistently see through so-called free trade agreements that are actually designed to protect intellectual property rights, austerity policies that cause most workers' wages to stagnate (while profits continue to grow), and other misguided economic policies. Among other things, CEPR has taken lead roles in promoting a financial transactions tax, own-to-rent as a way to avoid evicting troubled homeowners, job sharing to reduce unemployment, and the need to bring health costs in line with those in other advanced economies. CEPR co-director Mark Weisbrot covers the international angle, focusing especially on misguided US policies toward Latin America.
I really like this charity and what it does. I refer to its website regularly, especially Dean Baker's blog, which I can depend upon for another view of the current issues. This organization is great for anyone who has an interest in economics.
