I first learned about Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) in 2001. I am a repeat donor, and my first donation to CNEWA was in 2006, and subsequently have given to their work including year in 2015.
CNEWA fulfills a niche role in the humanitarian and spiritual aid world. They deliver aid through the local churches, libraries and community centers. This enables smarter use of resources and since CNEWA has been in existence for 90 years, they have a legacy of good work.
I would recommend this charity to any donor looking to expand their giving portfolio, or to anyone who wants to find better alignment with their values since many other organizations both religious and humanitarian have not kept up with many of the big changes in the world that make it impossible to deliver aid the way they did in the past.
Over the years, I have found CNEWA is forward-looking, nimble and clear about their core values, as well as the people they serve. This is why I gave them a 5-star rating on Great Non-Profits.
An outstanding organization based in the Archdiocese of New York. I have been donating for years as they fund Catholic and Orthodox programs in Africa, the Middle East, Asia & the former Soviet bloc. As these Catholic Churches were decimated by rogue governments and are now starting to flourish, the cause is well justified. You select the project that you want to support and the money goes for that purpose. Even their magazine is award winning.
