Mission: The mission of Catholic Charities is building a just and compassionate society, rooted in the dignity of all people. Founded in 1903, Catholic Charities serves low-income families and individuals, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, age, or sexual orientation. In fiscal year 2006, Catholic Charities assisted more than 199,000 people in communities throughout Eastern Massachusetts. Out of respect for our clients and supporters, 84 cents out of every dollar goes directly to client services.Services are sensitive to the needs of diverse populations. Catholic Charities works closely with other community providers and engages volunteers in effective community responses. Resources are targeted to neighborhoods of working poor families, whose wages do not keep pace with need.Catholic Charities serves towns throughout Eastern Massachusetts. Multiple service centers are located in Boston. Others are located as far West as Framingham, as far South as Brockton, and as far North as Lawrence.Today, Catholic Charities maintains the same strong commitment that has guided it for nearly 100 years. Moving decisively toward meeting the needs of a changing population and the challenges of the new millennium, Catholic Charities remains focused on its primary mission: providing hope for all.
Programs: Catholic charities provides community based services to the poor and working poor in the greater boston area with food and basic needs assistance, family support, refugee and immigration services, emergency shelter, elder care, and parenting programs. The agency provides community interpreter services, after school and youth programs, and education and training. Education and training programs include: english as a second language, certified nursing assistant training, and ged classes. Through our family stabilization and education programs we work to create oppurtunities for sustainable self sufficiency for our clients and a path out of poverty. Through outreach, basic needs assistance, education, youth, shelter, and immigration programs, catholic charities served over 200,000 people during fiscal 2014.
catholic charities provides both center-based and family childcare services to children of all faiths in the greater boston area and surrounding communities. We serve over 1,100 children ranging in age from 4 weeks to 13 years, depending on the specific program and location. Our programs are licensed by the massachusetts office of early education and care (oeec), are naeyc accredited, and are community-based. Over 90% of the children enrolled qualify as income eligible and are funded through the oeec. Our childcare services are designed to meet the needs of families, providing quality childcare that is flexible in hours, reasonably priced, and focused on development; educational, social, physical, and cultural. We offer one head start program at our dorchester yawkey center, as well as infant/toddler and pre-school programs. Our center based childcare locations include infant/toddler, pre-school, and kindergarten programs in south boston, jamaica plain, lynn, peabody, malden, and cambridge. Our family childcare networks serve the communities of cambridge, somerville, everett, malden, medford, lynn, peabody, salem, and beverly. Our peabody center also offers an after-school program for children ages 5 - 13, open year round with extended hours in the summer and during school vacations.
catholic charities family counseling and guidance centers in danvers and lynn, massachusetts offer treatment and counseling for people struggling with life issues such as substance abuse, mental health, family and parenting support, child and adolescent counseling, dual diagnosis, and anger management. Individual, couples, and family counseling is available and service is provided by masters level clinicians supervised by a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Our counseling centers offer a full array of clinical services provided by a highly trained and devoted staff of mental health and substance abuse counselors. Catholic charities served 1,195 people during fiscal 2014.
