Causes: Education
Mission: The purpose of this tax-exempt entity is to promote athletics for both boys and girls at cabrillo high shcool, but more importantly to accomplish fundraising for various school projects to support the athletes.
Programs: The cabrillo high school athletic booster club, inc. Exists to support athletes and athletics at cabrillo high school. Due to budget cuts, our role has become increasingly more difficult and increasingly important. One of the major expenses is transportation. Because of our support, teams have been able to continue participating in various tournaments since their funds are not captured by transportation cost. This fiscal year, we were able to donate over $5800 to help several sport teams at chs. Chs-abc was able to help purchase new uniforms for the boys and girls golf, girls tennis, and the freshman football team. We helped the boys and girls water polo and swim teams, the boys and girls soccer teams, the boys and girls track teams, and the baseball team with new equipment for their practice and game day facilities. In addition to helping the varsity teams, chs-abc was also able to help purchase a new industrial john deer lawn mower for the chs maintenance department to help maintain the athletic fields. The major expense for chs-abc was the $16,000 that was spent on a digital mapping of the entire school property and the surrounding neighborhood. This survey was completed with a local engineering company and all records are on file with the state and santa barbara county records office. This is phase 1 in our effort to get a home soccer/football/track stadium at cabrillo high school. This past year, cabrillo high school family lost one of its greatest supporters- bob boyer. He successfully coached water polo, swimming, and girls basketball while at cabrillo, collecting over 30 league championships during his tenure as a coach. He was the cif southern section coach of the year in 1976 after guiding his polo team to a cif championship. Because of bobs life changing impact on so many chs student athletes, chs-abc has created the bob boyer student athlete of the year scholarship. This scholarship is given to one boy and girl graduating senior every spring in the amount of $1,500 to each winner. These are just a few examples of the hard work being done by the volunteer efforts of the chs-abc. Given our remote location, about 5 miles from the nearest town, we are very interested in enhancing the facilities at the school in order to promote a healthy lifestyle for the community and our student athletes.
