The hospital center has 630 beds at two major hospital divisions; a major psychiatric facility; and an extensive "bronxcare" network of medical practices. It is the bronx community where we see the importance of fulfilling the hospital's mission of community service. Bronx-lebanon regularly provides free check-ups and screenings at schools, shelters, nursing homes, senior citizen centers, churches, and many other community organizations. Numerous outreach programs have also been initiated to educate the community about important health issues, including healthbeat, bronx-lebanon's widely acclaimed weekly television show, which offers viewers the opportunity to have their questions answered by medical experts. Bronx-lebanon's mobile health units are bringing physicians and medical services directly to where they are needed. Its school-based health programs are promoting health education and prevention, as well as achieving positive outcomes for students. In addition, the 51 unit mt. Eden housing facility is offering improved housing opportunities for seniors and low income residents. During 2016, the system rendered 171,485 days of inpatient care and 835, 752 of outpatient care visits which includes 131,889 emergency department visits to the residents of the bronx community. In 2016, the hospital center provided approximately $27,600,000 in charity care to its patients.
