Mission: To maximize the value of the bristol bay fishery for the benefit of its members by focusing on the economic wellbeing of bbrsda members, supporting a sustainable bristol bay commercial fishery, and providing the highest quality wild salmon products.
Programs: Marketing: to conduct marketing and promotion. From 1/1/17 to 12/31/17, bbrsda supported projects that promoted consumer awareness of bristol bay sockeye salmon (bbss) in the marketplace and supported branded marketing efforts. Data demonstrating these efforts are:-the board funded 4 marketing projects in 2017 worth $433,356 and approved five new marketing projects for 2018. These projects funded efforts to expand bbss brand reach, promote bbss in the domestic retail environment, and research market conditions-developed marketing partnerships with 7 retailers-organized and facilitated in-store bbss promotions at 360 retail locations through: fishermen supported cooking demos; distribution of bbss branded assets including: recipe cards, posters, case clings, ice spears, informational cards, and branded aprons; development of co-branded pr assets; social media support, and local tv spots-attended 1 trade show: boston seafood show-developed online media library for digital assets that currently has 107 subscribers-supported a consumer facing website that received 10,700 visits as well as a bbss facebook page that generated 1. 27 million impressions and has 18,949 followers (+5. 4% from 2016)-secured trademarks at state and federal level for the bbss brand-commissioned 2 sockeye market reports and presentations at member meetings-creation of new video and photography assets highlighting the fishery and product attributes of bristol bay sockeye salmon-the marketing committee met 3 times in support of the marketing program- fulfilled 39 orders from direct marketers for bristol bay sockeye recipe cards, stickers, static clings, and ice picks
quality: to improve quality by building the capacity and desire of the fleet to chill at the point of harvest and adopt best handling practices bbrsda undertook the following efforts from 1/1/17 to 12/31/17:-the board funded 4 quality projects in 2017 worth $102,300. These projects supported additional ice production and improved ice delivery, a quality awareness campaign, and an analysis of the level of chilled fish reaching processors in 2017-the board reviewed and approved funding for 7 quality projects in 2018 including projects to further ice production, increase awareness of best handling practices and provide rsw consultations-the quality committee met 8 times in support of the quality program.
organization development: to support the economic well being of bbrsda members. From 1/1/17 to 12/31/17, bbrsda continued the organizational development necessary to support the continuation of a biologically and economically healthy and productive commercial salmon fishery in bristol bay. Data demonstrating these efforts are:-attended and had booths at 3 industry trade shows: bellingham wild seafood exchange, kodiak comfish, and pacific marine expo-attended and had booths at 2 community festivals: naknek winterfest and petersburg little norway festival-hosted and sponsored a bristol bay reception for membership and stakeholders-hosted 4 townhall events in naknek, kodiak, bellingham, and petersburg-sent 13 informational waypoints email newsletters to bbrsda members about the bristol bay fishery and the organization-produced spring and fall organizational newsletters-maintained an organizational website that generated: 8,833 unique visitors; 10,900 website visits; and 19,400 page views-conducted 6 physical board meetings, 2 teleconference board meetings, and 2 member meetings-held 1 board training-conducted annual board elections-developed and approved an annual budget-conducted 8 finance committee meetings to provide financial oversight-operated a bbrsda facebook page that made 87 posts in 2017 and has 468 followers to dateall these activities supported continuous strengthening of the organizational foundation of bbrsda and its membership.
