Mission: Brightside animal center is dedicated to enriching the lives of displaced animals through quality care and selective adoption to a responsible loving home through community education,support, and the efforts of our staff and volunteers, for every animal in our care.
Programs: Animal care and adoptions: in fiscal year 2016-2017 the brightside animal center cared for 1584 animals. The organization is a responsible, open admission shelter and services the tri-county area of deschutes, jefferson and crook counties. The live release rate was 97%. Brightside animal center reunited 289 animals with their owners. The organization continues to develop programs to enhance the lives of the animals residing at the shelter while waiting for adoptive homes. The organization also continues to develop relationships with other shelters and rescue groups to place animals that might do better in a different environment or with a group more skilled with particular breeds. All animals adopted out are spayed or neutered, microchipped, have had necessary vaccinations, necessary veterinary procedures such as dental procedures, tumor removals, or other medical needs cared for, and have had time with behaviorists and trainers to help them to be ready for their homes.
the brightside animal center thrift store is a large contributor to the organization's operating income. The public continues to support the mission of brightside animal center through donations of furniture, household items and clothing that are processed by volunteers and then put back into circulation at very reasonable prices.
in fiscal year 2016-2017, the veterinary team at brightside animal center performed 1,073 spays and neuters, and 1,958 exams on shelter animals. The veterinary team also performed low cost spays or neuters on animals owned by private citizens, thus helping to control pet overpopulation within our communities.
