Fundraising proceeds from the norma pfriem breast center's rose of hope luncheon, kaulbach memorial golf classic, connecticut energy partners golf classic, bridgeport hospital auxiliary events and other initiatives continue to enhance patient care and the patient-family experience at the hospital's main campus and outpatient facilities. Examples of how philanthropic gifts were used during the past year include:1. Opening of the elizabeth m. Pfriem hybrid operating room for patients seeking minimally invasive cardiac and vascular surgical procedures. The facility was funded in significant part by philanthropy. 2. Opening of the yale new haven children's hospital neonatal intensive care unit (nicu) at bridgeport hospital. This state of the art facility, featuring increased privacy and comfort and the most advanced technology for the care of premature babies, cost $7 million and was made possible entirely through philanthropy, is planned for 2017. 3. Recruitment of a patient care assistant to ride a shuttle with our child and adolescent psychiatry patients to make sure they attend their group and individual therapy appointments safely and on time. 4. Establishment of a transportation access fund to enable outpatients to afford the cost of getting to and from their medical appointments at the hospital's primary care clinic and ahlbin rehabilitation centers. 5. Growth of an oncology integrative medicine fund to provide music therapy, massage, yoga, meditation and other supportive services to cancer patients and their families. Additionally, the bridgeport hospital foundation earned a renewal of the gold seal of transparency from guidestar, a nonprofit organization that provides information to advance transparency, enable better decision making and encourage charitable giving. In order to receive the gold seal, the foundation provided guidestar with financial information, goals, strategies, capabilities, indicators and progress milestones.
