Mission: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens, by providing quality educational, athletic and recreational support for children of working lower and middle income families.
Programs: Summer camp, which is attended by approximately 700 children, is an affordable program which provides athletic, recreational, artistic and educational programs including swimming lessons. Summer camp offers full day programs that are a safe and positive alternative to negative influences of the street. Such programs include: brain gain program is an interactive educational tool designed to eliminate "summer slide", the reading loss experienced by children during the summer. The goal was a 0% reading loss so that children returned to school in september at the same reading level that they left in june and ahead of the curve.
the boys and girls club of paterson & passaic provides affordable and high quality licensed after school programs that provide programs to over 1,300 children. -such programs include:power hour- an interactiave, after school homework assistance program for children aged 5 to 13. The goal of the program is for members to complete their homework daily so that they are prepared for school the following day. Kids college- an online tutoring service for children with grades of c or below that uses a personalized learning engine that combines thought provoking learning activities with fun and motivational games tailored to meet individual learning needs.
the teen center hosts many programs designed to help teens make responsible, healthy choices, including smart moves and smart girls and other service programs. Hundreds of teens participate in these programs including:d2d program - a college readiness program, providing a range of services to guide club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success. Boys & girls club of paterson teaches teens through the d2d program that they have several options after high school. D2d also educates teens on how to properly write application essays, how to fill out college applications, what questions to ask on a college tour, find the right type of school that fits their interests and grades, and takes them on several college tours. Teens receive a binder/folder to keep all their notes on what they have learned and refer back to them at any time. Money matters - money matters is a fun and attractive teen program that encompasses practical tips and activities to help teens learn to balance a checkbook, create a budget and save and invest for college and retirement. The money matters program helps teens build their money management skills through interactive activities, games and tools such as a savings and financial aid calculator to help them plan for college. Smart moves - the smart moves (skills mastery and resistance training) prevention/education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use. The program uses a team approach involving club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. More than simply emphasizing a "say no" message, the program teaches young people ages 14 to 18 how to say no by involving them in discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence. The ultimate goal: to promote abstinence from substance abuse through the practice of responsible behavior.
