Mission: Because everyone deserves to read, watch, listen, and learn. Our mission begins with supporting literacy programs which give children and adults the tools to acquire knowledge through reading. But that is only the beginning. A constant, high quality supply of books and other materials is needed to ensure continued interest in reading. To state the obvious, it is impossible to promote reading and learning if books are not available in the first place. Books for America was created to ensure that anyone who wants to read will have the tools to do so.Recipients include hospitals, inner-city and rural schools, assisted living communities for seniors, adult literacy programs, V.A. hospitals, youth centers, women''s shelters, hospices, and other such organizations.
