Mission: Bellis is a multi-purpose nonprofit with no political or religious affiliations or agenda. Its volunteers, including birth parents, adopted persons, adoptive parents and adoption social workers, bring adoption education and awareness into schools and communities. The organization also provides peer-based support, including a healing weekend retreat for birth mothers and six ongoing supportive gatherings each year.
Programs: Bellis provides financial and emotional support to women who have made an adoption plan for their child in the past. During the period of july 1, 2016 through june 30, 2017, assistance in the amount of $3,950 was directly provided to such individuals. Approximately 45 women were also served by peer-support network programs, including a weekend retreat, workshops and other events. Bellis also assists in providing educational support regarding adoption to both young people and professionals, including publishing educational materials and its website. During the year ended june 30, 2017, bellis provided information regarding adoption to over 4,000 high school students in minnesota through presentations at various high schools around the state. The presentations were often given by a panel of individuals familiar with the adoption process, including birth parents, adoptive parents, birth children, and social workers. Broadband education is also performed via media interviews, presentations at faith communities and at civic organizations.
