Mission: To provide outreach and education to local farmers, food banks, schools and community.
Programs: Worked with local farms to provide fresh, quality farm products to the community;education on organic farming;provide healthy food choices. Over 59,284 people accessed our programs in 2014 for a total of 47 market days. Provided education to the public in several ways: 1. Supported farmers, local restaurants, and the public by providing a booth several weeks for cooking demonstrations from chefs of local restaurants using fresh ingredients purchased from the farmers on market day. Recipes are available for taking home. A newport high school culinary arts class also presented. 2. Provided a booth for kidsquest childrens museum on opening day (may 15, 2014) and each thurs in july and august with activities focused on agriculture and farming for children3. Provided a booth to the city of bellevue for enviroissues-gogreen, network on aging, cascade water alliance, neighborhood group, utilities dept, and stream team4. Distributed $2 admission discount coupons for the bam that were used to increase attendance and awareness of community arts5. Provided booths to international exchange students, king county library, us forest service, readers-to-eaters, sound transit, king conservation district, wsdot, bellevue downtown assoc and bellevue on the move. 6. Loaned canopies to first presbyterian church of bellevue for worship in the park in the bellevue downtown park. Also loaned canopies to the auto angels car show fundraiser. 7. Accepted ebt/snap at our markets.
worked with local food bank, hopelink, to get fresh fruit, vegetable and bread donations to needy families in bellevue. 4,148 lbs of food was donated in the 23 days the food bank participated.
worked with wic (women, infants & children) and seniors programs accepting coupons to get fresh produce to low income families and seniors. In 40 market days, $2,480 of wic and senior coupons were redeemed.
work with puget sound fresh, as members of the cascade harvest coalition to enhance community food security & health by improving access to locally produced food, building relationships between farm/non-farm communities. We display puget sound fresh's farm guides. Work with kidsquest childrens museum to provide agricultural and gardening activities for children on market days. Partner with bellevue arts museum to promote and support the arts. Sell retail promotional items.
