I am a native Floridian who now lives in California but I still have family in Florida and love my home state with all my heart. My beaches, when I was growing up in Florida, were Jacksonville and Neptune and Atlantic but I also love St. Augustine's Crescent Beach. When I visit family I spend a lot of time cleaning Florida's beautiful beaches. Then one day I found out about the turtle patrols and I was hooked on their mission. I am a lover of all wildlife and wild spaces and that's why it pains me to see the degradation of Florida's ocean environment from tons of trash and beach furniture that traps and kills so many of our precious sea turtles. I was spending all my time alone trying to fill in holes that really needed an earth mover to fill. I spent countless hours picking up all kinds of beach furniture and human garbage. I can hardly wait to visit again, once it's safe, and meet up with this group and work alongside them. I am a proud supporter of the turtle patrol and of the turtle hospital in St. Augustine. If it were not for our sea turtle patrol this wonderful species would surely be suffering much more and would likely be in decline. I thank God for them and the work they do! I love you, Beaches!!!

BSTP monitors sea turtle activity along approx. 10.5 miles of beach in Duval County, FL. BSTP maintains a web page which provides a lot of useful information about sea turtles in general and more specifically about nesting and false crawls in the local area. Many public information events are planned each season.

Beaches Turtle Patrol are some of the most dedicated humans on this planet. The work they do is wonderful for the planet and our sea turtle friends, but what alot of people don't know is the work is hard and tedious at times and mostly if not fully compiled volunteer hours.
I work with many turtle patrol groups, Beaches Turtle Patrol are always professional, organized, and efficient.

Being part of the BSTP as a new recruit has been a long time goal of mine. It has given me the opportunity to join an amazing group of like-minded people concerned for our turtles and environment. Their commitment to helping the sea turtles and provide education to broaden awareness is such an inspiration. I cherish this chance to learn as much as possible so that I can take part in hands on learning and community outreach. Love this group❤️

The first ten years of my life were lived in a beautiful oceanfront home. When my family moved it was into a home that was about a thousand feet from the beach so the ocean has been a major part of my entire life. The preservation of any endangered species is a monumental task and the people at the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol approach their responsibilities with seriousness and professionalism. I have been blessed to have several opportunities to see them in action and I could not be more proud of the job they do representing our community on behalf of a global effort to save endangered sea turtles. From important issues to beach clean up, sea oats renourishment and sea turtle protection, staffers at the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol work tirelessly to make beach life better for for the residents here and to make the location safer for sea turtles who come ashore in this area to lay their eggs.

My family moved to Atlantic Beach the summer of 2019 and were ecstatic to be beachside and enjoy all that comes with beach life. We shortly after heard about the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol and all they do in conservation and rescue during turtle season. We see them day/night all along our beaches during nesting season caring for and monitoring all the nests. But it wasn’t till just last month we had our own experience with them when we found a wash back loggerhead while going on a morning walk. Because of there effort to share with all our residents what to do in this situation I was able to quickly find there number and contact them. Within 20 mins we were joined by one of there volunteers who took our wash back to a nearby hospital. I’m am so thrilled and proud that we have such a great organization to protect these precious sea turtles.

What would we do without these hardworking volunteers to protect our sea turtles and help educate the public. Thank you for all you do and you are truly appreciated. So many people know nothing about how to respect and protect our sea turtles. Thank you for for educating us.

BSTP provides training for volunteers to help preserve the future of the turtles that nest on Jax, Neptune and Atlantic Beach. Without this effort I am sure that many of the nest would not survive the incubation period

I am heavily invested/committed to BSTP for both their mission and the amazing people that volunteer for them! Full disclosure...I am one of the volunteer directors for BSTP (director since 2004, tagalong volunteer since 2000). I was a tagalong volunteer for a few years, didnt feel I could make a long term time commitment to another 'job' or organization but being a tagalong I got to meet the folks who started and those who committed long term to the mission and arduous field & reporting tasks for years/decades day in day out 6-12 months year after year after decade. Most of these folks had jobs or businesses to run, families, volunteered elsewhere, caregiving roles, and raising kids/grandkids. Well, that took most of my excuses away :-). (It also helped finding out it was 100% volunteer, no paid positions EVER where donations go towards the mission instead of BS 'overhead/salary/perq' expenses that we see on the news weekly where large non-profit 'efforts' sometimes exploit their donors contributions on yacht trips, luxury resorts, fancy cars, etc.)....I also got to see the behind the scenes efforts that all our volunteers do 'when no one is watching', and it is inspiring and energizes me every year! Many of our volunteers have become like family or I like to think we were all family before, but were just waiting to be introduced :-). The community is overwhelmingly supportive of our mission and there is so much recognition of the bond between people, nature and non-human life that it gives me hope that love and kindness will always prevail in this world and the next. My only sadness regarding my involvement with Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol is that the sea turtles had to become endangered first before there was a need for groups like BSTP. Lets hope we dont ever need a 'Earth Humans Patrol, Inc' group! Oh wait, we do!
