This nonprofit is so much fun to work with. Every Sunday morning they meet around 11am and make breakfast for all the volunteers. It's not just eggs and coffee, either, but lots of different options. When I was there, they made breakfast tortas, with chorizo and eggs, avacado and bacon. Everyone eats while the rice and beans cook, then everyone gets to work, rolling burritos and packaging them. They take the burritos to their distribution point, and when I handed them out, they were still hot. Bakersfield Pizza and Bar brought about a dozen pizzas to hand out to everyone. There was a big crowd too, around 150 people. Everything was handed out around 2pm and the volunteers hung out and visited for a few minutes. It felt like being part of a special family, and I loved being a part of it.

Every Sunday, this group creates fresh burritos from scratch and hand delivers them to the community where there are pockets of homelessness and hunger. They make a huge effort to create the best food for people, and they are a fun group to volunteer. Since they have nothing to sell, they are constantly looking for funding, so whatever help one can offer goes a long way.
I have known the organizers for a few years now. They are relentless in their drive to feed the people that have fallen off the grid.
Where similar groups form around the holidays; Bakersfield Burrito Project has been doing it 52 weeks a years for a long time. A very worthwhile effort to keep afloat.
These guys go above and beyond to do their part in feeding the homeless and hungry in our community. Offering "The best free burrito in town", they feed over 150 people each and every Sunday rain or shine.
